when the wind blows

1986

When The Wind Blows is a British animated disaster film directed by Jimmy Murakami based Raymond Briggs' graphic novel of the same name. The film stars the voices of John Mills and Peggy Ashcroft as the two main characters.

When an elderly couple prepares for nuclear war by the Russians, they go about things their own way by using their past experiences dealing with world war 2, They prepare for survival the only way they know.

This film can explore the clumsiness of a typical old couple as at one point they still fort that the Germans was the enemy and their mind set was very much set back to world war two. Their personalities can be typically old fashioned as they can say things that wont be socially acceptable to todays generation.

This film does explore a mixture of traditional Raymond Briggs water colour animation with 3D stop motion with live action which I think adds to that realness of the film.

While I was watching this film I felt that there was something mysterious about this film as nuclear war obviously nuclear war never happened and I fort one of could be suffering from dementia or something and imagining it in their heads as they are an elderly couple.

overall I will give this film 3/5.
