the death of superman lives

2015

The Death of Superman Lives is a 2015 Documentary film created and presented by Jon Schlepp who explores the real reason why Tim Burtons adaptation of a Superman movie was cancelled.

The cancelled Superman Movie that was going to be called Superman Lives was originally going to have Nicolas Cage as Superman alongside Christopher Walken as the main Villain Brainiac with Tim Burton as director.

This documentary explores the process of pre production of the Cancelled movie and as I am currently working on my pre production bible for my course work I thought this would be a suitable movie choice to review. This shows Tim burtons original vision for the movie with his original sketches that he developed on how the characters should look and I fort this would be an interesting way to try and develop my ideas as through Tim burtons sketches I got more of a clear understanding on what he is thinking and how he thinks while creating art. This movie also explored on concept art and costume designs and by seeing these concepts and costume designs I do think this would have been one interesting film and this could have took superman to the next level. I am kind of disappointed that this movie never got developed into a full feature length movie and would have been interested in what could have been as I also think this movie may have got me into the superman character as I have never really been into superman. this documentary also explains how the Warner Brothers studio was afraid to develop this movie as we only just got Batman & Robin not long before which was a critical and financial failure and that Tim burtons intentions was extreme and unique to what we have got before within the superman character so I do think this was one of the reasons why this movie never got made.

I do recommend this documentary who is interested in film making or animation but overall I give this documentary 3/5.
